Northwest Church of Christ,
                Greensboro, NC

The following is information regarding the leadership of the church, as described in the New Testament.  All are areas of service, and no one office is to be elevated above or below another, but all are meant to aid in the service of the church (Matthew 20:26).

In the New Testament, Christ's church is organized under the
the oversight of elders. It is their responsibility to provide for the spiritual guidance of the local church. To learn more, click HERE.

Deacons were also appointed to meet various needs of the congregation. They serve under the direction of the elders. To learn more, click HERE.

Another aspect of the organizational structure for the local congregation revealed in the New Testament is the role of the minister.  The minister (preacher, evangelist) of the congregation has been given the responsibility of preaching and teaching from God’s word (1 Timothy 4:16, 2 Timothy 2:24-25).  The Bible describes the minister as a servant of those who are in need, but his specific interest is in meeting the spiritual needs of those he serves.  The minister is not an elder (shepherd, or pastor) because God’s Word describes the minister’s role differently from an elder (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9).
